Luis Tralhao

Luis Tralhao coached Torreense to the 2026 Taça de Portugal, the club's first title in the competition [7]. Torreense beat Sporting 2-1 after extra time in the final at the Jamor National Stadium on 24 May 2026 [6]. Tralhao had been the club's head coach since January 2026 [3] [2]. The club's official website names it S.C.U. Torreense [1].

A long apprenticeship at Benfica

Tralhao spent a long time in Benfica's youth system [4]. He was on the coaching staff of the club's junior sides [4]. Il Foglio adds that he was assistant to his brother João at Benfica's Under-23 side, and that he took over once João had moved on [5]. The same article says he worked with players including Renato Sanches and Gonçalo Ramos [5]. His brother João later became a trusted assistant to José Mourinho at Real Madrid [5].

Before joining Torreense in 2024, he led Cova da Piedade for a short time in 2019/20, on an interim basis [4] [5].

From Torreense Sub-23 to the first team

Tralhao joined Torreense in 2024 to lead the under-23 side [8]. In his first season he won the Liga Revelação with that team [8]. He took over from Tiago Fernandes, who had been promoted to the first team [4].

On 2 January 2026 the club confirmed him as head coach, succeeding Vítor Martins [3]. At that point Torreense were ninth in the Segunda Liga, with 20 points from 16 games and a run of six consecutive defeats [3]. The club signed 13 new players [9].

The final at the Jamor

Kévin Zohi gave Torreense the lead in the fourth minute. Luis Suárez equalised for Sporting in the 54th minute. Stopira scored a penalty in extra time to win it [6]. The referee was António Nobre [6]. A Bola noted that Tralhao had led the group for only five months at the time of the final [6].

Before the 2026 Supertaça against FC Porto in Coimbra, Tralhao was asked whether his side could win it. He replied "Vencer? Porque não?", which means "Win? Why not?" He also noted that a second-tier team had never won the Taça de Portugal before [9].

Contract renewal and Europe

On 21 July 2026 the club confirmed that Tralhao had agreed a two-season extension, with the message "A missão continua" ("The mission continues") posted alongside a video [7]. The cup win also gave Torreense a place in the Europa League league phase for 2026/27, which would be the club's first appearance in that competition [7]. The club had also come close to promotion, losing its final match to Casa Pia [7].
