Lauren Graham is {age} years old, born on 16 March 1967 in Honolulu, Hawaii [1]. The actress and author is best known as Lorelai Gilmore in Gilmore Girls and as Sarah Braverman in Parenthood [1]. In 2026 she is back in the news twice: with a film role in Reminders of Him and with a behind-the-scenes Gilmore Girls book she is writing with the show's creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino [5].

Born in Honolulu, raised in Virginia

Graham was born on 16 March 1967 in Honolulu [1]. Her mother, Donna Grant, was a fashion buyer. Her father, Lawrence Graham, is a candy industry lobbyist and a former president of the National Confectioners Association [1]. According to the Television Academy biography, she lived in Japan for a few years while her father worked for the Agency for International Development in Vietnam [1].

Her parents divorced when she was five, and she moved with her father to Alexandria, Virginia [1]. She graduated from Langley High School in 1984 [1]. Two summers of stock theatre at the Barn Theatre in Augusta, Michigan, earned her an Actors' Equity card in 1988 [1].

Her schooling was academic first. She took a bachelor's degree in English literature at Barnard College in 1988, then moved to Texas in 1992 for a Master of Fine Arts in acting at Southern Methodist University [1]. Her publisher's biography lists the same two degrees [3]. The reading and writing habit stayed with her, and it matters for the second half of her career.

The break: from guest spots to Stars Hollow

After Texas she moved to Los Angeles in the mid-1990s and worked her way up through guest parts. The Television Academy lists appearances on 3rd Rock from the Sun, Caroline in the City, Law and Order and Seinfeld, plus regular roles in short-lived series including Good Company, Townies, Conrad Bloom and M.Y.O.B. [1]. Rotten Tomatoes also lists film work in the late 1990s, among it One True Thing in 1998 [4].

The break was Gilmore Girls. From 2000 to 2007 she played Lorelai Gilmore, on The WB [4]. The series ran for seven seasons and 154 episodes [1]. In 2002 she received a Golden Globe nomination for best actress in a television drama for the role [2]. She did not win, and the Golden Globes site lists no other nominations for her [2].

In her 2016 memoir she described the first season as an "adrenaline-fueled dialogue high", and she said she found the role harder in the final seasons, when the show was made without Sherman-Palladino [10]. That is her own account, as reported by NME.

Stage, Parenthood and the books

In 2009 Graham made her Broadway debut as Miss Adelaide in the revival of Guys and Dolls at the Nederlander Theatre, which ran from March to June [1]. She then took the role of Sarah Braverman in the NBC family drama Parenthood. Rotten Tomatoes dates the series from 2010 to 2015, while the Television Academy gives 2009 as her start [4] [1]. The sources differ by a year on the start; both end in 2015.

She also became a writer. Her first novel, Someday, Someday, Maybe, came out in 2013 [1]. In 2016 she published Talking as Fast as I Can, a memoir of essays about Gilmore Girls and her career, which also covers sexism and ageism in Hollywood [10]. Penguin Random House describes her as a three-time New York Times bestselling author, including Talking as Fast as I Can and Someday, Someday, Maybe. Its author page also lists a fourth title, Have I Told You This Already? [3].

In 2016 she was one of the presenters of the 68th Emmy nominations announcement, alongside Anthony Anderson and Bruce Rosenblum [1]. That was a presenting job, not a nomination: the Television Academy shows no Emmy nominations for her [1]. Her publisher also credits her as executive producer and star of the Disney+ series The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers [3].

Relationships and family

Graham has kept most of her private life to herself. What she has said publicly concerns Peter Krause, her co-star on Parenthood. In a November 2022 interview reported by Good Morning America, she said the two met and began dating while making the show. The relationship stayed largely private until 2021 [7]. Looking back, she said they "almost came into a relationship as people in their 40s without asking any of the questions people in their 40s should be asking" [7].

She also said the end of the relationship "still has its moments" but that she is in a better place now [7]. She helped raise Krause's son, Roman, who is now an adult, and said "we're connected" [7]. The sources we checked do not mention children of her own, and we do not guess.

Reminders of Him and the Gilmore Girls book

In 2026 Graham plays Grace Landry in Reminders of Him, the film adaptation of a Colleen Hoover novel. The cast also includes Maika Monroe, Tyriq Withers, Rudy Pankow, Lainey Wilson and Bradley Whitford [8]. It was released in the United States on 13 March 2026 and is available to stream on Peacock [8]. In March 2026 she gave an interview to Extra about it [5].

The larger story is the book. On 3 December 2025 Today announced an untitled behind-the-scenes Gilmore Girls book by Graham and Sherman-Palladino, slated for fall 2027 [6]. Graham confirmed it on Instagram: "Because we love you, Amy and I are working on a new 'Gilmore Girls' book. Get your coffee ready!" [6]. The official logline, obtained by People, calls it "an intimate, behind-the-scenes portrait of their creative partnership" [6]. In March 2026 she told Extra the book will be a story about Gilmore Girls and, to her, "a story of friendship" [5]. That interview gave no release date [5].

On 23 September 2026 Graham attended Variety's Power of Women event at the Beverly Hills Hotel to support her Gilmore Girls co-star Melissa McCarthy, who was honoured. There she said she had filmed part of the HBO Max Gilmore Girls documentary and found it emotional [9]. We rely on that September 2026 account for the documentary.

What she does now

As of November 2026, Graham lives between New York and Los Angeles, according to her publisher's biography [3]. Her open projects are the Gilmore Girls book and the documentary she has spoken about. Plans for the book remain as announced: untitled, with a fall 2027 target [6].
