Patsy Kensit

Patsy Kensit was born on 4 March 1968 and is an English actress and singer [4]. In 2026 she returned to Emmerdale as Sadie King, a part she had left two decades earlier [2].

Sadie King in Emmerdale, 2004 to 2006

Kensit first played Sadie in 2004. The character arrived as the wife of Jimmy King, played by Nick Miles [2][1]. Her storylines included a house explosion [2]. Sadie's downfall came when Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) double-crossed her, stole the ransom money and left her behind [2]. Kensit left the show in 2006 [1].

Holby City, Tina and Bobby and later roles

In Holby City she played Faye Morton from 2007 to 2010, and the role came back in 2019 [1]. In 2017 she played Betty Dean in Tina and Bobby [1].

Her later credits include Agatha Raisin (2020), McDonald & Dodds (2021) and Death in Paradise (2023) [1]. She also appeared in Never Mind the Buzzcocks [1].

EastEnders as Emma Harding

Kensit joined EastEnders for what was described as a brief stint. She played Emma Harding, the estranged mother of Lola Pearce, who had left when Lola was three. It was Emma's first appearance on the soap [5]. Kensit said: "I'm so excited to be visiting Walford for this storyline." [5]

The 2026 return

Reports on 14 May 2026 said Kensit would return to the show as Sadie King later this year [2][1]. Kensit said: "I am really excited to return to Emmerdale. I treasure the years I was here before." [2] She also said: "Sadie King is a character that I really loved playing." [2] She added: "I am so grateful for the chance to return to the show, it's absolutely amazing." [2]

RTE describes Sadie as a villainous, scheming character [2]. The show's producer, Laura Shaw, said the return "will be explosive and guaranteed to shock" [1].

What Kensit has said about Sadie

In an interview published on 3 August 2026, Kensit said that accepting the role was "just a hard yes for me". She called Sadie "one of the favourite roles I've ever had" [3]. She said Sadie may have acquired new depths, and praised what Laura Shaw and the writers have done with the character [3].

The interview also names Kim Tate, played by Claire King, and says Sadie gets a more hostile reception from other characters [3].

What the announcement did not say

The May reports gave no exact date for her return beyond "later this year" [2]. The sources on this page do not say how long her contract runs, so the length of her stint is unknown.
